General Membership Meeting and JROTC Scholarship Awards Luncheon

The third annual JROTC Scholarship Awards Luncheon included the presentation of nine scholarship as follows: The $1,500 Bill Dadek Memorial Scholarship to Cadet Samantha McCartney of Terry Sanford HS, Fayetteville, NC; the $1,000 Tom Shipp Memorial Scholarship to Cadet Rhiannon Potwin of Jack Britt HS, Fayetteville, NC; the $1,000 Dr. Arlie R. Smith Scholarship to Cadet Tristen Orr, of E.E. Smith HS, Fayetteville, NC; $1,000 CFC Scholarships to Cadet Krishawn Royal, Hoke County HS, Raeford, NC; Cadet Noah Scott of Westover HS, Fayetteville, NC; Cadet Noah Bagby, Harnett Central HS, Angier, NC; Cadet Sharnice Belser, Union HS, Rose Hill, NC; Cadet Logan Dubin, Hoke County HS, Raeford, NC; and, Cadet Austin McWherter, Cape Fear HS, Fayetteville, NC.

Taking part in the presentation of scholarships to the JROTC cadets included: The Honorable Nat Robertson, Mayor of Fayetteville and the keynote speaker for the event, and Chapter President Chavez. View copy of event program at download below.

Mrs. Maureen Dadek took part in the presentation of the Bill Dadek Memorial JROTC Scholarship. Similarly, Mrs. Janet Shipp and son Gary Shipp, took part in presentation of the Tom Shipp Memorial Scholarship.

Scholarship recipients were accompanied by parents, family members, ROTC instructors, school principals or their representatives, too numerous to list here.

Honorary Membership was bestowed on Mayor Nat Robertson; he was presented with a framed honorary membership certificate, a chapter hat, and a coin lock by President Chavez.

Kevin Arata was welcomed as a new chapter member; Charles Pimble, Tim Peedin, Ed Schowalter, Johnnie Hickson, and Kevin DiCassio as first-time meeting attendees.

Kevin Arata was the winner of the 50/50 drawing and donated his half of the proceeds to the scholarship fund; total taken in was $161.

Chaplain Tim Atkinson, accompanied by Helene Smith on keyboard, sang beautiful renditions of the National Anthem and God Bless America.
